Philip Pettit
Born in Ireland in 1945, for many years he was Professor of Social and Political Theory at the Research School of Social Sciences of the Australian National University, in Can¬berra, and of Philosophy at Columbia University in New York. He is currently Laurence Rockefeller University Professor of Politics and Human Values at Princeton University. His most important books include A Theory of Freedom: From Psychology to the Politics of Agency (2001), The Common Mind: An Essay on Psychology, Society and Politics (1993) and Not Just Deserts: A Republican Theory of Criminal Justice (1990, with John Braithwaite
