The Centre d'Estudis de Temes Contemporanis (CETC) was created in 1989 as a service attached to the Department of the Presidency of the Generalitat of Catalonia (Autonomous Government). Therefore, in 2004 the CETC celebrated its first his 15 of years of existence. The first director was the essayist Jaume Lorés (1989-1998), that was followed by Àngel Castiñeira (1998-2004), philosopher, Jaume Renyer (2004-2005), jurist, Enric Pujol (2005-2006), historian, Joaquim Albareda, also historian (2006) and Alfred Bosch, writer and historian (2007). At present, the CETC is integrated into the Directorate General of Departmental Action of the Department of the Vice-Presidency.

The CETC belongs to the government of Catalunya, autonomous community of the Spanish State (http://www.gencat.cat/catalunya/)

Study

Research, diagnosis and assessment of facts, events and trends from the contemporary environment that affect the Catalan and the universal situation, especially those related to the techno-economic, socio-political and cultural fields.

Promote initiatives and activities

The promotion and the coordination of initiatives and of activities linked to the intellectual world of social and human sciences in the national, state or international sphere. These initiatives include:

  • Participation, collaboration, advice and exchanges with other similar centres around the world.
  • The organization of seminars, one-day events, congresses, conferences and other similar events.
  • The creation and awarding of prizes within the sphere of the Centre’s functions.

Circulation

The circulation of the reports and the results of various research projects in all kinds of publications, both on paper and in electronic media.

  • The main currents and debates of political philosophy.
  • Analysis of public policies and the role of social capital.
  • The third sector and civil society.
  • National identity and the rights of national and cultural minorities.
  • Multiculturalism and intercultural dialogue.
  • Different aspects of values and applied ethics.
  • International relations, geopolitics and the effects of globalization.
  • The changes in cultural modernity and the humanities.

CETC Team

The CETC has a stable team of specialists who coordinate the research work, the publications and the rest of the activities (courses, conferences and seminars).

  • Alfred Bosch is the director of CETC
  • Marc Leprêtre is in charge of studies and prospective, and the edition and coordination of the IDEES magazine.
  • Josep Maria Pallàs is in charge of the resources.
  • Mercè Carbonell is in charge of the secretary’s office and of administrative matters in the CETC.
